LG Display today revealed a new screen for smartphones that stretches 5.5 inches across the diagonal and boasts quad HD (2,560 x 1,440) resolution.
According to LG, the new panel uses in-cell touch technology to reduce thickness while maintaining excellent sensitivity. It can be used when wet, for example. LG also says the LCD panel offers 50% higher contrast and is 30% brighter than its previous screens, while not requiring any more power. Combined, LG says these two elements help improve outdoor viewability.
LG plans to use the panel in and upcoming flagship smartphone, which is likely the successor to last year’s G3.
