LG announced it will ensure that all its future smartphones ship with active FM radios.
FM radio makes it possible for hundreds of millions of people to find and listen to local broadcasts for free. Moreover, LG has signed an agreement with NextRadio, which will be preloaded on a significant number of LG handsets moving forward.
However, LG’s decision to enable FM chips in its smartphones in the US, Canada, and Latin American countries, is subject to agreements with local carriers. While, LG has announced that it will preload NextRadio on a number of smartphones, but model list has been provided yet.
On top of local radio, the partnership will also provide access to audio emergency alerts even if cellular coverage become unavailable.
