LG has revealed details about the user interface that will front the forthcoming V30 handset, and the company has fully done away with the Second Screen that appeared on the V10 and V20 devices.
The V30 adopts LG’s FullVision display aspect ratio (18:9) and the company no longer feels the Second Screen — a small display that sat above the main display — is necessary. In the Second Screen’s place will be what LG calls a Floating Bar, a semi-transparent strip that will give V30 owners access to frequently used functions, such as contacts and settings. LG says the Floating Bar can be dragged off the screen entirely when not needed.
LG has changed up the Always On Display, too, which is more customizable than before and includes shortcuts to Quick Tools, the music player, and even photos. Other software features baked into LG UX 6.0 include Face Recognition that LG says unlocks the phone instantly even when the display is off. Further, Voice Recognition uses a combination of the user’s voice and self-generated keywords to unlock the phone without any button presses.
The V30’s camera gains access to Graphy, a tool for applying professional-looking styles to photos. LG explains that Graphy lets users pick the stylized filters or moods created by pros and apply the settings (white balance, shutter speed, aperture, ISO) to their own photos in order to achieve the same look.
Moreover, V30 owners will be able to create GIFs or movies by pasting together photos and/or video files, as well as customize the feel of haptic vibration and other settings. LG is expected to announce the V30 at an event scheduled on August 31 during the IFA trade show in Berlin.
