Lionsgate has changed the release dates of their upcoming film Overboard (with Pantelion Films) and Traffik (with CodeBlack Films). First, the gender-swapped remake of Overboard has moved from April 13 to May 4.
Two separate worlds come together when a handsomely rich playboy, Leonardo (Eugenio Derbez), suffers a head injury that wipes his memory and leaves him in the car of his disgruntled former employee, Kate (Anna Faris).
Overboard is Metro-Goldyn-Mayer Pictures and Pantelion Films’ remake of the 1987 romantic comedy of the same name. In a splashy new twist, Leonardo is a selfish, spoiled, rich playboy from Mexico’s richest family and Kate, a working-class single mom of three hired to clean Leonardo’s luxury yacht, collide. After unjustly firing Kate and refusing to pay her, Leonardo falls overboard when partying too hard and wakes up on the Oregon coast with amnesia. Kate shows up at the hospital and, to get payback, convinces Leonardo he is her husband and puts him to work — for the first time in his life. At first miserable and inept, Leonardo slowly settles in. Eventually, he earns the respect of his new “family” and co-workers. But, with Leonardo’s billionaire family hot on their trail and the possibility of his memory returning at any moment, will their new family last or will Leonardo finally put the clues together and leave them for good?
Overboard is directed by Rob Greenberg and written by Bob Fisher, Rob Greenberg, and Leslie Dixon. Derbez, Benjamin Odell, and Bob Fisher are producing, and Brendan Ferguson is executive producing. The cast also includes Eva Longoria (Desperate Housewives) and John Hannah (Four Weddings and a Funeral).
Next, Traffik starring Paula Patton, Omar Epps, Roselyn Sanchez, and Laz Alonso, is moving up from April 27 to April 20, putting it opposite Rampage, Duck Duck Goose, Dolphins, Super Troopers 2, Game Over, Man!, The House of Tomorrow and Tully. It was previously opposite Avengers: Infinity War, which may have something to do with the move.
In the action-packed thriller, Brea (Paula Patton) and John (Omar Epps) are off for a romantic weekend in the mountains. Isolated at a remote estate, the couple are surprised by the arrival of two friends, another couple, Darren (Laz Alonso) and Malia (Roselyn Sanchez). Just when the weekend starts to get back on track, a violent biker gang turns up and begins to torment them. The foursome are forced to fight for their lives against a gang who will stop at nothing to protect their secrets.
The film is written and directed by Deon Taylor. Traffik is produced by Roxanne Avent, Paula Patton and Taylor.
