Logitech-owned Ultimate Ears has announced a new Bluetooth speaker, the UE Megaboom. The design is based on the original Boom — which likewise aims sound in a 360-degree arc — but is substantially larger. It should last up to 20 hours on a single charge, and UE is promising a 100-foot range, well beyond most Bluetooth devices, which are typically limited to about 30 feet. By comparison, the original Boom has a 15-hour battery and a 50-foot range.
Like its predecessor the Megaboom is waterproof, and has apps for iOS and Android that can be used to control EQ settings or “double up” with a second speaker, whether a Boom or Megaboom. Paired units can be set to duplicate the same audio or serve as stereo channels.
The Megaboom costs $300, and is due to ship in the US and several Asian and European countries later this month. Red, black, blue, and purple color options are available
