Verizon confirmed it would have the Galaxy Nexus this year. The carrier is the first in the US to officially sign on for the Android 4.0 phone. It provided few other details other than that the phone would be ready before the end of the year.
Leaks have had the Galaxy Nexus shipping on November 10 for $300 on a contract.
The confirmation is somewhat belated as Google’s own staff have confirmed a Verizon LTE edition through their own behind-the-scenes look at getting camera samples. Still left to answer is whether or not it will have any exclusivity. Samsung’s own interest page has shown seven major US carriers, but it might have been gauging interest rather than committing to launching on several at once.
The phone is still Verizon’s first Nexus model of any kind and will be one of its few with a pure Android install since the original Motorola Droid arrived two years ago. Samsung’s headliner may have been important enough for Verizon that it skipped the Galaxy S II after determining that it needed a better iPhone 4S rival.
