Matrox Updates Video Breakout Boxes, Gain DisplayPort

Matrox’s existing DualHead2Go and TripleHead2Go DP Edition graphics expansion modules (GXMs) now include a Mini DisplayPort to DisplayPort cable, making it easier for Mac users of Apple’s latest notebooks and desktops and other computer owners with DisplayPort technology to hook up to three additional monitors or projectors to their machines. The DVI version of the boxes will also get a boost in an upcoming firmware upgrade, allowing dual 1600×900 resolution.

The GXMs are part of a lineup of breakout boxes that allow machines with only one video output to instead use multiple monitors in mirrored or the more popular “spanning” modes, symmetrically supporting up to dual 1920×1200 (DualHead) or triple 1360×768 (TripleHead) configurations.

Both models are available in VGA and DVI configurations as well, but Mini and standard DisplayPort connectors have begun to gain traction not only with Apple products, but on recent notebook releases from Toshiba, HP and Dell.

The DualHead2Go DisplayPort (DP) Edition costs $239. The TripleHead2Go DP Edition costs $329 and can be bought directly from Matrox or through video accessory resellers worldwide.
