Matthew Rhys, the Emmy-nominated star of FX’s The Americans has quietly booked a role on Girls, appearing in the sixth and final season in a role described as “a total departure” from the parts he has previously inhabited.
“That’s a prime example of our show [opening doors],” Rhys recently told The Hollywood Reporter of his forthcoming role on the HBO comedy. “[Lena Dunham] watches it and goes, ‘Oh, come and do this.’ It’s a total departure, and that’s what you always want.”
Rhys’ Girls gig prevented him from attending Saturday’s Television Critics Association Awards, where The Americans won best drama series for a second consecutive year. Further details about his role and the length of his stint were not immediately known.
