Microsoft has improved login security for its Android and iOS Outlook email applications.
Moving forward, Outlook will use something called Active Directory Authentication Library (ADAL)-based authentication for Exchange Online mailboxes in Office 365. Microsoft says this replaces the basic authentication method previously used.
The change also brings OAuth support to Office 365 accounts and alters the technical handshake Microsoft’s apps use to verify account holders as they move between them. Though the improved security is mostly meant to help companies better manage their employee email and productivity access, everyone who uses Office 365 will have a more secure login.
Microsoft said all Office 365 users will be prompted to re-enter their login credentials over the next week. This will trigger the new ADAL sign in and convert accounts from basic authentication to OAuth. The Outlook apps themselves do not need to be updated.
