Microsoft today made available a new version of its Windows Phone software developers kit (SDK). The Windows Phone 7.8 SDK will allow developers to make their WP7.1 and WP7.5 compatible with WP7.8, which includes some of the new behaviors for the home screen. Since no Windows Phone 7.1/7.5 devices can be upgraded to Windows Phone 8, Microsoft developed Windows Phone 7.8 as a stop-gap for older hardware.does not have the same core code or features of Windows Phone 8, but does offer the new Windows Phone 8 Start screen, which includes three different adjustable Live Tile sizes.
The new WP7.8 SDK lets developers adjust their apps to work with the Live Tiles in WP7.8. All apps written for WP7.1/.7.5 are automatically compatible with Windows Phone 8. The SDK is available for download from Microsoft’s developer site.
