Minecraft has been greeted warmly by Xbox 360 owners. Microsoft revealed this afternoon that the game has broken “all previous Xbox LIVE Arcade digital sales records” in its first week.
In its first six days, Minecraft Xbox 360 Edition has sold over a million copies. The game’s first day enjoyed record-breaking sales. The exact figures for the launch day weren’t provided but Major Nelson says that over 400,000 players were logged on Wednesday.
What’s that? You want more flashy statistics. Well, okay. Players have racked up a total of 5.2 million hours of playtime. They’ve spent 2.4 million hours with other players, spread across 4 million separate multiplayer sessions.
The game’s Xbox 360 debut hasn’t been without controversy, though. Some gamers were upset to learn that you need to have an HDTV in order to use the split-screen feature. Microsoft has allegedly denied refunds over this issue.
Minecraft is an open-world building game. Players can freely roam the game world, collect building materials, and then construct whatever edifices they want. The game debuted on the PC in 2009, and has since spread to iOS and Android devices as well.
The Xbox 360 edition of Minecraft costs 1600 MS Points to download. Xbox Live also offers a trial version if you’d rather take the game for a test drive first.
