If Pikmin 3 taught us anything, it’s that the series – evidently a personal favorite of its creator Shigeru Miyamoto – will be given the time it needs in development. At various points the third entry in the series was rumored for Wii and then 3DS, before emerging in HD splendour for Wii U.
It was with caution, then, that many greeted comments from Shigeru Miyamoto in 2015 that Pikmin 4 was “very close to completion”. Since then not much has been heard about it, perhaps proving that those initial comments were a sign of slight over-enthusiasm from Shigeru Miyamoto. Quizzed about its progress, the Creative Fellow admitted it had been struggling for prominence in Nintendo’s list of priorities, but was working its way back onto the agenda.
Yes, you are right, and we’re working on [Pikmin 4]. So, you know, when we’re in development we have to create a list of priorities and it has been hard to kind of fit that into that list, but we’re hopefully starting to see that on the list now.
Most bets are on a Nintendo NX release, of course, especially as it’d be a handy title for the platform’s first year on the market. Time will tell, ultimately, but we’re certainly keen to see where the series goes next.
