BMW has made its free iOS app available to its car owners in the US. The app, My BMW Remote, lets owners use their Apple device in conjunction with the company’s BMW Assist service to remotely access and control their vehicle’s features. Basic remote functions include finding the car’s location, remote door locking and unlocking, and pushing a local Google search to the vehicle.
The app helps car owners locate their car if they can’t remember where they parked it. If its within 0.6 miles of the iOS device, the car’s location is displayed on a map. The owner can use Google Local Search to look up local businesses, restaurants, and other services, with details optionally shared to the BMW.
Most models made in 2008 or later can be controlled through the app. Owners of later models can also flash their headlights or blow the car’s horn through the app.
