Following the success of Will & Grace‘s return, a revival of The Office is now also in the works at NBC, according to TVLine. The Office revival will again be set at Dunder Mifflin’s Scranton, PA., branch, and is expected to feature a mix of new and old cast members.
Steve Carell, who played the branch’s regional manager, Michael Scott, for seven of the show’s nine seasons, will not be involved in the new show. A search is currently under way to find a new actor for the regional manager part, says the site.
Back in August, NBC Entertainment chairman Bob Greenblatt was asked whether a deal was in the works.
“We often talk about The Office, I’ve talked to Greg [Daniels] four times over the past few years. It’s always, ‘maybe someday but not now,’” Greenblatt told Deadline. “There is certainly an open invitation, but we don’t have anything happening right now. If he wants to do it, I would do it.”
The Office initially featured Steve Carell, Rainn Wilson, John Krasinski, Jenna Fischer and B. J. Novak as the main cast. It was an adaptation of the British series created, written and directed by Ricky Gervais and Stephen Merchant.
