Netflix and Discovery have struck a new deal that will see Netflix pick up shows including Man vs Wild and River Monsters, according to Reuters. If accurate, it will be the first time that Discovery will have made its shows available for instant streaming. Sources close to the deal say that it is for two years, though there will be an option for a third year should Discovery choose to extend its contract.
Content available as part of the deal will apply only to previously screened Discovery shows, and will only be available to US subscribers. The financial terms of the deal have not yet been made public, and neither company has confirmed the new arrangement at the time of writing.
News of the deal is a rare positive in recent months for Netflix, which has been going through a rough patch lately, partly self-inflicted and partly through the loss of premium content provider Starz
