Netgear, revealed two new dual-band access points and updates to three current products on Monday. The new APs include the outdoor WND930 and indoor WAC120 access points; the updated products are the ProSAFE 8-Port Gigabit VPN Firewall, the ProSAFE 4-Port Dual WAN Gigabit Firewall, and the ReadyNAS 2120 Series NAS. The networking company indicated that these products are ideal for K-12 schools, healthcare and hospitality sites, and small- to medium-sized businesses.
New Access Points
For starters, the WND930 AP is for extending the local network to public areas like parks, pool areas, playing fields and other outdoors areas that need high throughput and high-capacity coverage. This dual-band Wireless N device is powered by redundant dual Power over Ethernet (PoE) Gigabit ports, and is capable of providing power to other PoE devices. The access point also comes with pole-mounting and wall mounting kits. The WND930 will be released sometime this month for $1,199.
Next we have the WAC120, which is a dual-band Wireless AC AP, for small businesses that only need a few access points in the office. This device offers up to 867 Mbps on the 5 GHz band and up to 300 Mbps on the 2.4 GHz band, providing a combined throughput of 1.2 Gbps. This model is available now for $159.
Updated Firewalls
The first of the two updated firewall models is the FVS318G-200, the company’s ProSAFE FVS318G VPN Firewall. Ideal for small businesses with up to 10 users, this version includes a new processor, which in turn allows for an increased WAN-to-LAN performance of up to 250 Mbps. Additional features include an integrated firewall with IPsec VPN tunnels, a software-configurable hardware DMZ port, and a built-in eight port gigabit switch. This revamped model will be made available sometime this month for $202.
The other updated model is the FVS336G-300, which is the company’s ProSAFE Dual WAN Gigabit Firewall with SSL and IPsec VPN. This solution is ideal for companies with up to 50 users, according to Netgear. It includes four gigabit LAN ports and two gigabit WAN ports for load balancing and failover protection. This model features a new processor as well, enabling WAN-to-LAN throughput up to 350 Mbps. Netgear is making this refreshed model available now for $374.
Updated ReadyNAS
Finally, we have the RN2120-200, which is the ReadyNAS 2120 Series NAS. This device features a 1U form factor, four bays, and the capability of handling up to 25 simultaneous users. Netgear indicated that this refreshed product features a new processor that provides 20 percent better performance than the previous model. The NAS is also capable of unlimited snapshots, cloud-managed replication and thin provisioning. Without hard drives, this model is available now for $1,110.
These products can be purchased through Netgear’s PowerSHIFT partners, and through authorized reseller channels.
