The New Nintendo 3DS and the New Nintendo 3DS XL shipped in Japan on October 11 in “Metallic Black” and “Metallic Blue.” Japan added the “Pearl White” color on June 11. The new 3DS systems include a new analog c-stick near the A, B, X and Y buttons, which works similarly to the old yellow C-stick for the Nintendo Gamecube controllers, as well as new “ZL” and “ZR” shoulder buttons, positioned next to the existing L and R buttons. The new 3DS is also equipped with a micro-SD slot near the back of the system.
The new 3DS systems have near-field communication (NFC) technology, which allows the 3DS system to work with Amiibo figures.
The New Nintendo 3DS XL shipped in Europe and North America in February. The New Nintendo 3DS XL is available in the West in “New Red” and “New Black” colors.
Nintendo ended production on the original Nintendo 3DS LL last year. Several colors of the original Nintendo 3DS, however, are still in production.
