It looks like Paramount Pictures developing a new Beverly Hills Cop movie? “The Shield” creator Shawn Ryan seemingly first broke the news on Twitter while talking about his pilot, starring Brandon T. Jackson as Axel Foley’s son, that was not picked up by CBS.
“Sad to report that efforts to land Beverly Hills Cop pilot at another network have failed. This iteration is dead for now. Good news for fans of franchise is that the pilot tested so well, it has caused Paramount to put another #BHC movie into development,” he said.
Written by Ryan and executive produced by Eddie Murphy and Ryan, the pilot also featured Murphy reprising his character.
It appears the pilot drew enough attention to spawn a new movie (It is certainly strange that a pilot that tested so well was not picked up as a series, however). Paramount reportedly has enlisted Eddie Murphy to reprise his role and they’ve set Josh Appelbaum and Andre Nemec to write the script. Appelbaum and Nemec have previously worked with Paramount on Mission: Impossible Ghost Protocol and the upcoming Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles.
