A significant percentage of second-generation Nexus 7 buyers are running into what appears to be quality control issues with the device. In addition to widespread problems with inaccurate and malfunctioning GPS location, some users are experiencing issues with phantom touches and other touchscreen sensitivity issues. Perhaps the most severe issue being reported is devices randomly crashing or rebooting even when the device is not being used.
Afflicted users are experiencing unpredictable keyboard behavior, lag related to poor touch detection, and touches being seen by the device without a user’s hand on the screen. Several tools have popped up in the Google Play store for users to judge how affected by the issue they are. Google handler Paul Wilcox has posted to forums, reassuring early adopters that concerns are being listened to, and the company is looking into the matter.
Google’s forums are also seeing some users plagued with random crashes or reboots not induced by user action. Google’s current remedy for the problem is to reboot the device ins safe mode, and perform a factory reset, but the procedure reportedly doesn’t fix the problem for long, or at all.
