Screenwriter Nick Antosca’s traveling from Hannibal Lecter’s dinner table to the blood-splattered shores of Camp Crystal Lake. Currently working on the script for the new Friday the 13th movie, Antosca recently revealed a key detail on the next installment.

While responding to questions on Twitter, Antosca revealed that the new Friday the 13th film will not be a sequel to the 2009 reboot:

Antosca’s comment supports the rumors that this new film will take place in the 1980s, bringing it back to the ultimate era of the slasher film. It’s not certain what new style Antosca refers to, but don’t expect it to be found footage, as Platinum Dunes producer Brad Fuller mentioned back in February that the new Friday the 13th movie will not be filmed in found footage style. Fuller also stated that the new movie would be shot at a summer camp and that he’d like the film to explore Jason’s supposed immortality.

A Platinum Dunes picture that’s slated for a May 13th, 2016 release from Paramount, the next Friday the 13th film will be directed by David Bruckner (The Signal, “Amateur Night” segment of V/H/S). Bruckner will work from a script by Antosca, but a prior draft was written by Richard Naing and Ian Goldberg (The Autopsy of Jane Doe).
