The ensemble cast for New Line and MGM’s revival of the Ice Cube/Cedric the Entertainer comedy franchise with Barbershop 3 continues to grow with Variety, following up on BlackFilm.coms story, that popular singer Nicki Minaj is joining the cast.
Minaj will play (what else?) a hairdresser named Draya who works in the beauty shop section of the barbershop, making this her second major film role after playing Cameron Diaz’s assistant in last year’s The Other Woman.
Malcolm D. Lee, who directed The Best Man and its hit sequel The Best Man Holiday, is at the helm of the movie written by Kenya Barris and Tracy Oliver and produced by State Street Pictures’ Bob Teitel and George Tillman Jr.
The original 2002 film Barbershop and its 2004 sequel Barbershop 2: Back in Business grossed a combined $140 million worldwide and original stars Ice Cube and Cedric will be joined in the threequel by Regina Hall, Eve and Common, the latter two, like Minaj and Cube, who also have a background in music.
