Arclight Films and Pure Dopamine this weekend at Cannes announced the new gritty crime-thriller Dog Eat Dog, based on the award-winning book of the same name by author Eddie Bunker. The film, just acquired by Arclight Films, will be directed by two-time Golden Globe and Palme d’Or nominee and WGA Laurel Award winner Paul Schrader (Raging Bull, Taxi Driver, Afflicted) and will star Academy and Golden Globe Award winner Nicolas Cage. Matt Wilder and Schrader wrote the script.
“We’re absolutely thrilled to be working industry legends like Paul Schrader and Nicolas Cage as well as accomplished producers Mark Earl Burman and David Hilary of Pure Dopamine,” said Gary Hamilton, Managing Director of Arclight Films. “’Dog Eat Dog’ has all the elements of a global commercial hit and the team to make it happen. We’re excited to introduce the film to buyers for the first time in Cannes.”
Dog Eat Dog is a gritty contemporary crime thriller about a trio of ex-cons, deep in the underbelly of Los Angeles, who are hired for a kidnapping. When the botched abduction goes awry and gets completely out of control, the cons find themselves on the run, vowing to stay out of prison at all costs.
“Ed Bunker is the crime writer’s crime writer. He’s in the pantheon and one of the main people who define modern crime writing,” said Schrader. “He lived the life and lived to tell the story. ‘Dog Eat Dog’ is Bunker at his best.”
The producers are Mark Earl Burman and David Hillary of Pure Dopamine. Executive Producers are Gary Hamilton, Don Rivers, Tim Peternel, Shaun Redick and Ray Mansfield.
“Putting together the winning combination that is the writing of Eddie Bunker, the direction of Paul Schrader and the acting of Nicolas Cage has all the makings of a seminal crime-thriller,” aid Burman.
Dog Eat Dog will move into production in October of this year.
