Nikon has introduced a fast 40mm f2.8 macro lens for crop-frame DSLRs. The AF-S DX Micro NIKKOR 40mm f2.8G lens is designed to offer Nikon DX-format shooters macro capabilities at a reasonable price point. It has a minimum focusing distance of just 0.53 feet (6.4 inches) to allow users to capture extreme close-up photographs and 1080p video with a life-size 1:1 reproduction ratio.
It also offers photographers a natural focal length (60mm, FX equivalent) in a relatively lightweight package weighing in at 9oz. To give the lens its speed, but also near silent operation, it uses Nikon’s silent wave motor technology allowing photographers to get close to a subject without disturbing it.
The lens also incorporates Nikon’s close-range correction system, where the lenses are configured in a “floating” design wherein each lens group moves independently to help achieve critical focus. Nikon’s special lens coating also helps to minimise lens flare and ghosting.
The Nikon AF-S DX Micro NIKKOR 40mm f2.8G will be available in August for an estimated selling price of $280
