With the original having turned in more than $160 million at the worldwide box office, a sequel to this year’s Olympus Has Fallen is on the way. ScreenDaily reports that Millennium Films and G-Base are producing a big screen followup, titled London Has Fallen, with Gerard Butler, Aaron Eckhart and Morgan Freeman set to return.
The original film saw the White House (codenamed “Olympus”) captured by a terrorist mastermind. With the President (Eckhart) kidnapped, disgraced former Presidential guard Mike Banning (Butler) finds himself trapped within the building. As our national security team scrambles to respond, they are forced to rely on Banning’s inside knowledge to help retake the White House, save the President, and avert an even bigger disaster.
The original film’s Katrin Benedikt and Creighton Rothenberger are again providing the screenplay, which will see a terrorist strike occur in London during the British Prime Minister’s funeral. New to the cast will be an MI6 agent, who teams with Banning.
Production is slated to begin on May 5, 2014 with Butler producing alongside Mark Gill, Danny Lerner, Matt O’Toole and Alan Siegel. Christine Crow, Boaz Davidson, Avi Lerner, Trevor Short and John Thompson will executive produce.
