You might know them best from hit TV shows like “Community” and “Married,” respectively, so it’s easy to forget that Jim Rash and Nat Faxon are also the Academy Award-winning co-writers of 2011’s The Descendants and co-directors of 2013’s critically-acclaimed The Way Way Back. Now, according to Deadline, the dynamic duo have set up their new writing/directing project Dead Mall at 20th Century Fox, because what better way to follow up an Oscar-winning dramedy and a coming-of-age story than with a good ol’ fashioned slasher movie?
The concept apparently concerns the title closed/dilapidated mall and a group of 40-somethings who should probably know better than to be inside of it. Apparently much of the humor of the script will come from the fact that these grown adults should have the wherewithal to not make the same stupid decisions that their teenage slasher movie counterparts would.
Kevin Walsh is producing Dead Mall through production company B Story, with Faxon and Rash as executive producers in addition to writing the script and co-directing.
Faxon previously co-starred in Broken Lizard’s slasher movie parody Club Dread and will next co-star in the comedy Operator with Martin Starr and Mae Whitman.
