Other World Computing is johnny on the spot with standard hard drives as well as solid-state drive kits for the new 2011 MacBook Pro models announced last week. From a 1TB internal hard disk option (33 percent more capacity than Apple’s largest option, the 750GB drive) to SSDs up to 480GB in capacity (and priced up to 50 percent less than the factory SSD options), the company offers a selection of options for new MacBook Pro owners, including RAM options as well.
OWC also offers a 750GB drive in a 7200rpm configuration as well, featuring 50 percent more storage capacity than Apple’s 500GB 7200rpm option, and yet priced $25 less. OWC’s kits include all the needed tools and an external enclosure for easy installation and data transfer from the original drive.
Also available is RAM for the new MacBook Pros, including significant savings on the maximum 8GB RAM kit as well as a special 6GB kit not available as an option from Apple. The RAM kits use 204-pin, 1333mHz PC10600 SO-DIMMs, with their in-house 8GB kit (2x4GB) priced at $115 — less than half the cost of Apple’s 8GB factor RAM upgrade. The company also offers factory Samsung RAMat slightly higher cost, as well.
