White Wolf Publishing has been under CCP Games’ ownership for some time, but now it’s changing hands. Publisher Paradox Interactive bought the company in an all-cash deal from CCP Games. The cash amount was undisclosed.
White Wolf is best known for its supernatural games such as Vampire: The Masquerade and Werewolf: The Apocalypse. Under CCP, there were plans to create a World of Darkness MMO in the company’s office in Atlanta, Georgia. However, the game was eventually cancelled in 2014, and 56 employees were laid off from the Atlanta office. The rest were eventually put to work on various parts of the EVE franchise, making it the first time that all of CCP Games’ offices would be working on one main franchise.
Under the ownership of Paradox Interactive, there’s hope that White Wolf’s IP will get a breath of fresh air. Its developer side, Paradox Development Studio, is well known for the Europa Universalis and Crusader Kings strategy games. On the publishing side, it ushered in the popular RPG Pillars of Eternity from Obsidian Entertainment and Cities: Skylines, which was developed by Colossal Order.
With a diverse offering of games, White Wolf fans might get a second chance at a World of Darkness MMO.
