Paramount Pictures has put down some release date flags late into their release calendar today with the exact projects that were born from their Hasbro Cinematic Universe writer’s room.
First up is a brand new GI Joe movie from the studio which will be released on March 27, 2020. It will be followed by Micronauts on October 16, 2020. In addition, an Untitled Paramount/Hasbro Event Film was set for October 1, 2021. Seemingly unrelated to the “Hasbro Cinematic Universe,” but still a property of Hasbro, is a new Dungeons & Dragons movie, which will be released on July 23, 2021.
It was previously announced that the franchises which would lay the groundwork for the Hasbro Cinematic Universe included the previously-mentioned G.I. Joe and Micronauts, but also Visionaries, M.A.S.K. and ROM: SpaceKnight. Paramount and Allspark Pictures (Hasbro’s film label) will produce all of the films.
GI Joe previously made it to the big screen with two moderately successful films, G.I. Joe: Rise of Cobra in 2009 followed by G.I. Joe: Retaliation in 2013, which brought in $302 million and $375 million at the global box office, respectively. Micronauts was a toy line originally launched in Japan as “Microman,” but it was re-imagined for America by Mego toys and in a Marvel Comics series as subatomic-sized warriors.
Last year, it was revealed that Goosebumps director Rob Letterman would helm the Dungeons & Dragons movie with Ansel Elgort (Baby Driver) in talks to star. It remains to be seen if the two of them are still attached to the project, however. The role playing game was previously adapted into a feature film in 2000 which was followed by two direct-to-video sequels.
