Columbia Pictures has officially set Paul Blart: Mall Cop 2 to hit theaters April 17, 2015. A sequel to 2009’s surprise box office hit, Paul Blart: Mall Cop 2 is being directed by Andy Fickman with star Kevin James also writing alongside Nick Bakay (as was the case with the original).
Grossing more than $183 million worldwide on a $26 million budget, Paul Blart: Mall Cop also starred Jayma Mays, Keir O’Donnell, Raini Rodriguez, Shirley Knight and Bobby Cannavale. It follows the adventures of a hapless security guard who is forced to defend his mall after it gets taken over by a group of criminals. The new film is said to follow Blart to a Security Guard Expo in Las Vegas with his daughter. Despite being teased by casino security and other attendees, Blart takes on a group of dangerous art thieves.
No other films are currently planned for the April 17 date, although Paul Blart: Mall Cop 2 will land one week after James Wan’s Fast & Furious 7.
James is producing alongside Todd Garner and Adam Sandler with production set to start this month.
