PebblePebble has managed to sell over 1 million smartwatches to customers since its Kickstarter launch in 2012, the head of the company has confirmed. More than doubling the 400,000-unit milestone revealed in March, possibly due to a price cut in September, CEO Eric Migicovsky has revealed in an interview that the smartwatch producer is not sitting still, with more releases expected to take place this year.

New products and a new software platform are expected to arrive in the coming months, Migicovsky told The Verge. “We’ve found a new framework to use as an interaction model on the watch,” he advised, before noting that, though apps will continue to be available to install and use on Pebble, the usefulness of the smartwatch will be pulled in another direction. “It doesn’t look like what we have today, and it doesn’t look like what’s on your smartphone.” Migicovsky declined to give any extra details of what will be coming out of the company in the future.

Pebble has enjoyed a meteoric rise since it raised over $10 million on Kickstarter, with 2014 being a landmark year for the company despite competition from Android Wear and the impending Apple Watch. After starting the year with the launch of the Pebble Steel, it has encouraged developers to create apps for the device, leading to there being approximately 6,000 apps and watchfaces for the device range and close to 25,000 developers working on Pebble apps around the world. Internally, the company has grown from 30 employees to over 100, and includes some members brought in from LG’s webOS TV team.
