Along with many enhancements and bug fixes incorporated into the recently-released Apple Watch 1.0.1 software update, a flaw appears to have been located through user reports.
The update appears to be causing at least some Watch units to track heart rate much more sporadically or not at all unless manually called upon through Glances, AppleInsider reports (and confirms). Previously, the Apple Watch would monitor heart rate every 10 minutes (outside workouts), but appears to wait for an hour or more after the update.
The increased heart rate monitoring seen during use of the Workout app appears to be unaffected by the problem, and the accuracy of the heart rate monitor continues to be on par with dedicated heart rate monitors that use optical technology, such as the Mio Alpha.
