PRIMA Cinema, Inc., the world’s first digital distribution company offering highly secure delivery of theatrical release films to private home theaters, announced that its latest title, “Jurassic World,” becomes the 200th movie available to its customers.
Based in Southern California, PRIMA Cinema focuses on clients in major metro markets. Most of those clients are high-worth consumers of quality entertainment, delivered to their homes through PRIMA Cinema’s movie-player technology.
The client list covers Hollywood celebrities, directors and producers, sports franchise owners and pro athletes, entrepreneurs and Wall Street titans, senior Washington, D.C. diplomats and serious home theater enthusiasts, according to the company’s press release.
The system costs $35,000 for the hardware and a $500 per rental, according to trade journals. Indie films generally cost less than $500 for clients.
Other titles available to PRIMA Cinema clients include “The Imitation Game,” “Fifty Shades of Grey,” “The Lazarus Effect,” “Minions” and many others.
The company offers releases on opening weekends to clients in their private home theaters. Films are offered in a format that surpasses Blu-ray standards to provide the ultimate home theater experience, with the company’s award-winning technology also offering 3D capability with a planned 4K rollout in early 2016.
PRIMA Cinema is a rent-only service, and there is no subscription fee once it’s started.
New users are required to pay for 10 movies upfront. Because of its cost and exclusive appeal, the theater chains don’t see PRIMA Cinema as a threat.
The system also relies on a biometric security system so only the person who is authorized to watch the movie is watching the movie.
