QNAP Systems, Inc. today announced the Thunderbolt 2 Turbo vNAS TVS-871T. The new attached storage device features 20Gbps bandwidth, 4K video capable Thunderbolt 2, and compatibility with the Thunderbolt-ready storage expansion enclosures TX-500P and TX-800P. The high transfer speed of DAS and the accessibility of NAS is aimed at creative media professionals looking to streamline large 4K video and design workflows.
Powered by the Intel Haswell processor series, the new unit has options including Core i5 and Core i7. Networking is provided by dual 10 Gigabit Ethernet, and the TVS-871T can simultaneously run general Ethernet services in addition to the Thunderbolt 2 network, completely independently and with no bandwidth interference.
The six-bay Thunderbolt NAS is expandable up to 448TB by attaching a maximum of 6 QNAP expansion enclosures (TX-500P and TX-800P). Up to two Mac workstations can connect to a TVS-871T to process real-time video editing simultaneously.
With QvPC technology, users can connect a keyboard, mouse and HDMI display for using the TVS-871T as a cost-effective PC substitute, directly accessing stored data, running multiple VMs, surfing the web, enjoying 4K videos with Kodi, and monitoring surveillance live feeds from IP cameras, . The built-in App Center provides various install-on-demand apps developed by QNAP and third-party developers, including Time Machine compatibility.
