QNAP Systems has added to the company’s Turbo NAS lineup with one-, two- and four-drive enclosures aimed at small corporate workgroups, SOHO and home users. The TS-x19P II models all feature a 2GHz Marvell processor, 512MB of on-board DDR3 RAM, the ability to run the latest QNAP NAS firmware and a two-year warranty. Secure connections to the drives can be accomplished via FTP, web-base file management, WebDAV or remote mobile apps.
The lineup includes the TS-119P II, a one-drive tower unit that includes one Gigabit Ethernet LAN port, one eSATA port and two USB 2.0 connections. The TS-219P II is a similar model with room for two drives (hot-swapping of drives supported) and two eSATA ports, with the four-drive tower TS-419P II featuring two Gigabit Ethernet ports, two eSATA ports and three USB ports. All offer speeds of up to 109MB per second download, 75MB per second upload in a network environment.
Users can easily access and stream multimedia content directly to some models of HDTV as well as Sony’s PS3, Microsoft’s XBox 360, Logitech’s Squeezebox servers and other systems. Music can be streamed using iTunes Server or available online to mobile devices via the QMobile app.
The drives also offer plenty of business-centric features, including cross-platform SMB/CIFS with folder aggregation, user account and shared folder management via a web browser, an anti-virus feature, support for Windows Active Directory and LDAP, SSL/TLS encryption on FTP, policy-based unauthorized IP blocking and remote login. The units also record detailed file access logs when users log in via Samba, iSCSI, AFP, FTP, HTTP/HTTPS, Telnet or SSH.
All three models are said to be extremely energy-efficient, using as little as four watts of power in sleep and seven watts in operation. With the optional MyCloudNAS service from QNAP, the drives can be converted into private cloud storage systems. Built-in software includes the ability to stream multimedia content using the UPnP protocol, support downloading via FTP/HTTP/BT and eMule, and can provide backup storage using QBack for Windows users or Time Machine for Mac users. The drives can also host websites, share USB printers and record surveillance video from IP cameras connected to the network.
Prices for the drives are expected to be in line with previous versions, which had the TS-119P at $300, the TS-219P at $400, and the TS-419P at $570. The drives are available from various resellers, including Amazon, Newegg and PC Mall.
