Nvidia has unveiled the Quadro K5000 for the Macintosh Pro. The Kepler-based K5000 is currently the most powerful professional class GPU for the Macintosh, providing both faster processing and lower power usage than its predecessor, the Quadro 4000.
The double-width PCI-E 3.0 card can drive up to four displays, two on DVI-DL, and two on Displayport 1.2. Over 2.1 teraflops of computing performance is delivered from 1536 CUDA cores. A 17.3 Gbps data rate with 4GB of GDDR5 VRAM allows 4096 x 2160 resolution with Displaypoet at 50Hz refresh. OpenGL 3.2, DirectX 11, OpenCL, and Nvidia CUDA are all supported by the card.
A 2008 Mac Pro or newer running OS X 10.6.8 or greater is required to use the card. The K5000 will be available late in 2012 for an estimated retail of $2,249.
