Qualcomm today announced it has improved the Snapdragon 810 processor by incorporating an LTE Category 9 Carrier Aggregation modem.
With LTE Cat 9 on board, Qualcomm claims the 810 has reached download speeds of 450Mbps over three 20MHz LTE carriers in lab-based tests. Qualcomm said it also validated the 810’s 3x Carrier Aggregation compatibility with commercial grade networks. Real-world speeds will be much slower based on various different factors.
The modem is backwards compatible with all major cellular standards and technologies supported by 4G LTE including GSM/EDGE, CDMA1x/EVDO, TD-SCDMA and WCDMA/HSPA+. The Snapdragon 810 processor with Category 9 support should be available to Qualcomm’s customers in early 2015.
