Maker of chips for mobile devices Qualcomm on Friday announced it has purchased all the assets of Rapid Bridge. The San Diego-based company invented techniques for the design and development of semiconductors. These methods are said to reduce the complexity in integrated circuit development for higher design flexibility.
At the same time, Rapid Bridge optimizes die size and reduces power consumption on the chips it designs.
As a result of the buy-out, Rapid Bridge’s design team and engineering services based in San Diego and Bangalore will be integrated into Qualcomm’s CDMA Technologies. The deal still needs regulatory body approval and fulfill certain terms and conditions, but is expected to close by the end of fiscal year 2011.
