Land Rover is planning an all-new model to cut a more aggressive profile. According to Autocar, it will be called the Range Rover Sport Coupe, and slot into the automaker’s luxury lineup in between the Evoque and Range Rover Sport.
Based on the architecture of the new Jaguar F-Pace, the new model would be closer in size to the BMW X4 and Mercedes GLC Coupe than the X6 and GLE Coupe, but with more dramatic proportions. Aft of the long hood and in between the short overhangs, we could find a 2+2 cabin with smaller rear doors in a layout that’s starting to seem like a Mazda RX-8 on stilts.
A variety of powertrain options could be offered, potentially extending even to JLR’s silky-smooth 5.0-liter supercharged V8 for an SVR performance model that – with the platform’s light weight – could leave the existing Range Rover Sport SVR in its dust. The model could also end up being Land Rover’s first all-electric model, but most would probably end up equipped with smaller gasoline and diesel engines.
