A small batch of Nikon batteries for the 1 V1, D7000, D800, and D800E cameras are at risk of overheating and becoming distorted during the charging process, Nikon has announced. The company has announced a battery replacement program for the affected run of the EN-EL15 battery.
Nikon EN-EL15 batteries with an E or F as the ninth character of the serial number are the only batteries affected by the overheating issue. A set of battery replacement instructions is available on Nikon’s website.
The Nikon EN-EL15 battery is a 1900mAh Lithium Ion battery. No customers have yet reported experiencing the overheating issue. The potentially defective battery batch has only been available at retail on and after February 29. 2012.
