After beta testing for nearly four months, the combined Verizon and Redbox streaming media effort Redbox Instant is available to the general public. For $8 a month, or $9 a month for blu-ray kiosk rentals the service offers four rental days a month, in addition to computer and portable device viewing of the rotating selections on the online movie service.
Customers can register up to five devices with the service, including those running iOS and Android, Samsung TVs with Smart TV capabilities, some makes of Blu-Ray players and the Xbox 360. Streaming through a browser will use Microsoft’s Silverlight.
The beta served 3,500 different titles for streaming, with 7,500 available for purchase. More than 4,500 titles for streaming were expected for the launch today. A free 30-day trial is available.
