Nintendo’s US president Reggie Fils-Aime in an interview has said the company’s eventual Wii sequel won’t use 3D. He saw the glasses-free 3D on the 3DS as an important point. Since glasses-free 3D is very rare and difficult to accomplish for multiple people on a TV, the future console would still almost certainly be 2D, he explained to CNN.
“We’ve not said publicly what the next thing for us will be in the home console space, but based on what we’ve learned on [3D], likely, that won’t be it,” Fils-Aime said.
Little else has emerged of what the new system would involve, but most expect it to finally upgrade to HD and to get a speed upgrade for a much greater level of detail. It could show as early as the E3 event in June.
