Nick and Nora Charles were the perfect sleuthing couple, one of the very best husband/wife teams in the history of cinema, but so much of what made that work was the time period of the stories… the ’30s and ’40s elite social circles were so much classier than today.
Plus there was a crazy chemistry between the absolutely adorable Myrna Loy and William Powell that cemented the relationship. This is a husband/wife team that get each other, love the other for their strengths and worship the other for their weaknesses.
Funny, touching, but not cloying or pandering… Can Johnny find a female lead to pull that off, one possibility is Angelina Jolie with her lanky beauty, but the two of them received a lot of jeers for their last cinematic outing together. This movie will require the opposite skill set of Captain Jack, suave rather than bumbling, witty and urbane rather than stumbling physical comedy.
Johnny Depp seems to like working with Rob and they are both fans of William Powell.
