The upcoming X-Men: Dark Phoenix is set to bring back much of the cast from the new series of films in the franchise, but one notable character won’t be back. Speaking with CinemaBlend, star Rose Byrne confirmed that she will not be back as Moira MacTaggert in the film.
“Unfortunately, Moira is not showing up. I wish she was. I had such fun on X-Men: Apocalypse. I love that cast. It is a really fun, what do you call it? Superhero film… ensemble exactly. I can’t wait to see what [Jessica Chastain] does, ’cause I’m such a fan.”
Byrne made her debut in X-Men: First Class as the character, a CIA operative with a focus on mutants and mutant relations. She reprised the role in 2016’s X-Men: Apocalypse as well.
X-Men: Dark Phoenix will bring back much of the cast of the new films, including James McAvoy (Professor X), Michael Fassbender (Magneto), Jennifer Lawrence (Mystique), Nicholas Hoult (Beast), Alexandra Shipp (Storm), Tye Sheridan (Cyclops), Kodi Smit-McPhee (Nightcrawler), Sophie Turner (Jean Grey), and Evan Peters (Quicksilver). Lamar Johnson of The Next Step has joined the cast in a mystery role and the mutant Dazzler will reportedly play a part in the film.
Simon Kinberg is writing and directing the film, marking his directorial debut. He will also produce alongside Lauren Shuler Donner and Hutch Parker. X-Men: Dark Phoenix is set to open in theaters on November 2, 2018.
