runoflifearticleFans of “American Horror Story” have come to expect new stories with different casts every season, but now that show’s co-creator/producer Ryan Murphy is opening up the franchise to a whole new genre with “American Crime Story.”

Like it’s sister show, this new miniseries anthology will air on FX and feature a different focus each season, the first of which will be “American Crime Story: The People v. O.J. Simpson.” The ten-episode order, directed entirely by Murphy, is adapted from Jeffrey Toobin’s book “The Run of His Life: The People v. O.J. Simpson” by screenwriters Scott Alexander and Larry Karaszewski. It will shoot in Los Angeles early next year, and be told from the point of view of the lawyers in the famous case that redefined tabloid news coverage.

“This is an exciting project for me, as I’ve been looking for the right property which could serve as an extension of the ‘American Horror Story’ brand I love so much,” Murphy said. “The O.J. case was as tragic as it was fascinating – it seemed like everyone had a stake in the outcome. It was really the beginning of the modern tabloid age.”

Alexander and Karaszewski have developed something of a niche for writing unconventional biopics, having scribed The People vs. Larry Flynt and Man on the Moon for Milos Forman, Auto Focus for Paul Schrader, and Ed Wood for Tim Burton, as well as Burton’s upcoming Big Eyes.
