Samsung today announced the Galaxy K zoom, a point-and-shoot camera / smartphone combination that includes a 20.7-megapixel sensor in a device with a 4.8-inch screen.
It’s a follow-up to last year’s Galaxy S4 Zoom, which was sold by AT&T. The K zoom’s camera uses a backside illuminated CMOS chip with 10x optical zoom, optical image stabilization, and a xenon flash.
Some of the software features include a Selfie Alarm for timing self portraits, object tracking for sharp focus, and Pro Suggest mode with several different filters. The camera includes the standard gamut of Samsung shooting modes, such as Shot & More, Beauty Face, and HDR. The Galaxy K zoom has a 720p HD display and runs Android 4.4 KitKat.
The device is powered by a quad-core 1.3GHz and dual-core 1.7GHz processor array with 2GB of RAM, 8GB of internal storage, and support for memory cards up to 64GB. The phone supports a wide number of LTE and HSPA+ bands, and also offers dual-band Wi-Fi, Bluetooth 4.0 Low Energy, GPS, and NFC.
It offers Kid Mode, Samsung’s Ultra Power Savings mode, and S Health Lite for those who like to track their daily activity.
The Samsung Galaxy K zoom will launch in the U.K. later this quarter. Pricing and U.S. availability were not disclosed.
