Samsung is seemingly trying to take on Apple’s iPad Air 2, by launching a similar-looking Android tablet. The Galaxy Tab S2 follows on from last year’s Tab S in being a high-resolution tablet, but while Samsung manages to put in a similar-sized 9.7-inch AMOLED display to the iPad Air 2 with a 2048×1536 resolution, along with an eight-inch variant, Samsung has also made it 5.6mm thick, thinner than the Air 2 by half a millimeter.

Inside both versions is an octa-core processor, using four 1.9GHz cores and four 1.3GHz cores, paired with 3GB of RAM and 32GB or 64GB storage options, with microSD expansion by up to 128GB. An 8-megapixel camera with autofocus is on the back of each Android 5.0 device, and is joined by a front-facing 2.1-megapixel version.

Wi-Fi, Bluetooth 4.1 BLE, and LTE connectivity is touted or each, along with a fingerprint reader, Reading Mode, and the ability to run two apps simultaneously on the same screen. Aside from physical size, the two tablets also differ in terms of battery capacity, with the 9.7-inch model having a 5,870mAh model compared to the eight inch’s 4,000mAh version.

So far, Samsung has yet to confirm how much either tablet will cost, but they will be available globally from August.
