Samsung said J.K. Shin, the long-time leader of the company’s mobile phone business, will cede control as part of the firm’s annual personnel assessment.
Samsung examines executive appointments across the company at the end of each year. Dongjin Koh will take Shin’s place as president of Samsung’s handset business where he will manage day-to-day operations. Koh previously spearheaded mobile research and development within the smartphone business.
Shin will remain in a leadership role at the company, but will focus on long-term business plans and new market opportunities. Samsung has lost market share over the last year to rivals amidst fierce competition.
Samsung hopes the leadership change will improve the performance of its revenue-generating mobile phone business.
