As we enter the new year, CES 2014 is upon us. Seagate is out to prove that prove that storage is a must-have item as they showcase new and innovative storage solutions.
“As storage becomes an increasingly integral part of everything we do, the established ideas about it must change,” said Scott Horn, VP marketing. “People around the world are in urgent need of space to store their most cherished memories, information and data, so we at Seagate are on a mission to provide people with the space they need for all of their lifelong experiences. To keep pace with changing needs and demands, we have to remove limits around design, function, form and features. The announcements we’re making here today demonstrate how Seagate and LaCie are leading that charge.”
Backup Plus Gets Some Improvements
The company has solidified their portable drive offerings under the Backup Plus brand. They offer a range of colors and sizes from 500 GB to 2 TB, that will be welcomed by both Windows and Mac users. When we previewed the drives here at the show it was impressive to see how Seagate has designed them so that the 2TB drive is only slightly thicker than it’s 500 GB counterpart.
To complement this move, they’ve made an updated version of Seagate’s Dashboard software that includes a mobile backup app to protect content on smart phones and tablets. The free Seagate Mobile Backup app backs up pictures and videos to a drive or a cloud service; files can be sent via a WiFi connection within a network, or through Dropbox, Google Drive or other cloud service while on the road.
Seagate Backup Plus FAST: The World’s First 4TB Portable Drive
Seagate is also showcasing Backup Plus FAST, its lightning-fast 4TB portable hard drive that’s the first to deliver up to twice the capacity and speed of existing external portable hard drives. Its speed, portable form factor and high capacity make it perfect for field photographers, filmmakers and others that must quickly move large files to backup. The 4TB Seagate Backup Plus FAST portable drive is currently available exclusively from Seagate.com.

Seagate is also partnering with Lenovo to deliver Yoga2, a new, affordable laptop hybrid tablet be powered by the Seagate’s 5mmLaptop Ultrathin HDD. Both companies will demonstrate the Yoga2 Ultrabook at the show. Seagate will also demo its 5mm Ultra Mobile HDD in the latest generation of Haier Computer’s 13-inch 500GB Tablet/PC— the Sailing P13A. The company also disclosed that Haier Computer has selected Seagate hard disk drives (HDD) to be the standard in all of its PC products.
Expanded Availability for Seagate Rescue Data Protection Plan
Seagate will also unveil the expansion of Seagate Rescue, its new data protection service plan, to include Staples in the United States, and NCIX and Canada Computer in Canada. The new plan will now also cover hard drives and storage in laptop or desktop computers. They say it is the only plan of its kind, delivering comprehensive data protection on a range of storage options from multiple brands and is the only data recovery service offered by the people who make storage technology.
