TV’s Sherlock is has moved from 221B Baker Street to Studio 8H this week, so Benedict Cumberbatch can host Saturday Night Live on Nov. 5. Now does running into his pal Jonny Lee Miller in NYC cause a time rip that only Doctor Strange can fix? Or would the lawyers come out and play agian?
Cumberbatch is front and center in this new SNL promo, speaking directly to the iconic New York studio when he declares “we meet at last” before taking center stage. (Watch Below)
The actor is in NYC to promote his new Marvel movie Doctor Strange but that some could make a case he is time on the show is more fitting with this being the last pre-Election Day SNL airing. Cumberbatch has played Wikileaks founder Julian Assange in the 2013 thriller The Fifth Estate.
Cumberbatch also played British World War II codebreaker Alan Turingin The Imitation Game, who is credited with cracking the German Enigma code.. In 1952 Turing was convicted of “indecency” because he was homosexual, which was a crime in the U.K. in those days. He took his own life in 1954 after he was forced to choose chemical castration. The actor in an interview said “the chemical castration so eloquently depicted in The Imitation Game is fueled by America’s “Christian far right” and still goes on to this day.
