The official website for Sega’s Phantasy Star Online 2 role-playing game began streaming a long version of an introductory video on Thursday for the game’s PlayStation Vita version.
The video introduces not only the various weapons players will be able to choose from, but also the character creation tool that allows players to match up costumes and accessories in order to create their own character. Ryohei Kimura (Penguindrum), Hiro Shimono (Baka and Test – Summon the Beasts), Yōko Hikasa (K-ON!), Nobuhiko Okamoto (A Certain Magical Index), Hiroshi Kamiya (Sayonara, Zetsubou-Sensei), Hisako Kanemoto (Kokoro Connect), and Eri Kitamura (Toradora!) will voice characters in the game.
Sega will release the game on the PS Vita in Japan on February 28. The software download will be free, and the game will be free to play, although in-game items will have fees. There will also be a Phantasy Star Online 2 Special Package sold with exclusive item codes on the same day for 5,229 yen (about US$58).
Sega launched Phantasy Star Online 2 for Windows last summer. Sega will also release the game for iOS/Android smartphone devices, but the release has been delayed until this year to raise product quality. The game is free-to-play across all platforms.
